Mr. Macauley has talked about the role of the UNDP - poverty reduction and gender issues. He explained in detail about HIV worlwide as well as in the region. There are 35 mil. HIV positive people in the world. In the CEE and CEA countries it is 1.3 mil, 90 % of that in in Russia and Ukraine. In Slovakia only 350 people, the lowest in the region, but growing. Drug treatment costs 4.000-8.000 USD /person for patented drugs and 500 USD for generics.
