On the sunny morning of May 11th, 2024, members of Rotaract Hradec Králové, along with friends from Rotary Prague International, Disaster Aid Europe, and Rotaract Prague International, took to the waters of Žluté lázně in Prague to compete in the 14th edition of the Rotary Dragon Boat Charity Challenge.
Under the spirited leadership of Stuart Amesbury from Disaster Aid Europe and Rotary Prague International, our team, dubbed "Rotary", demonstrated teamwork and perseverance. Though we finished 12th out of 16, the real victory was in the camaraderie and the funds raised for crucial local charities like ŽIVOT 90 and APLA Jižní Čechy.
The event kicked off at 9 AM with teams vigorously competing amidst the cheers of a lively crowd. The Dragon Boat races are not only a test of strength and coordination but also a fantastic opportunity for team building and contributing to a worthy cause. Our team, adorned in the white shirts, paddled fiercely, driven by the rhythmic beating of the drum and the encouragement from the banks of the Vltava River. Beyond the races, the day was filled with fun activities and live entertainment, making it a perfect outing for families and friends. The atmosphere was electric, with every paddle stroke in the water echoing our collective effort to make a difference.
As Rotaract Hradec Králové, we pride ourselves on engaging in activities that strengthen community bonds while addressing societal needs. Participating in the Rotary Dragon Boat Charity Challenge is a reflection of our commitment to community service and teamwork.
We look forward to next year's challenge, aiming to paddle not just with our arms but with our hearts.
