After several years of preparation, District 2485 was officially established, linking ALBANIA and KOSOVO, and the current interim Romanian DG was replaced by the newly elected DG 2024/2025, the enthusiastic and charismatic Butrint Batali. This event took place on the 3rd weekend of June in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
Over 200 guests from all over the world, Rotarians, including representatives of the top leadership of RI, official guests from the municipal and state governments of both countries were present for the 3-day spectacular event. On behalf of the DG and DGE of our district, I was also privileged to be present. The conference, discussion on the plans and objectives of the newly formed district, messages and well wishes from the guests and the opportunity to avail of the tourism program, were the highlights of the 3-day event. The handing over of documents by the RI leadership took place on Saturday evening followed by a sumptuous dinner and dance.
We sincerely extend our fingers crossed to the new district and wish them every success. The enthusiasm of the Rotarians for the new district is a guarantee that Europe will soon be proud of the new district because of their activities.
My intention, apart from a friendly visit, was to encourage local Rotarians to start a Golfing Fellowship. I must admit that I was impressed with the city of Tirana. It is a developing, vibrant city full of young people, great shops and fine dining.
Good luck, District 2485!
